FAQ's

Are all of Active Essentials™ skincare products Hypoallergenic?

Yes. We have worked diligently to eliminate the use of common allergens in our skincare products. You won't find wheat, soy, corn, or common nut allergens in our products. Our products are free from peanuts and tree nuts such as walnuts, cashews, almonds and pecans. We utilize coconut derived ingredients, which are not typically restricted by those with nut allergies. We do have a milk based product which we do not recommend for those with allergies to dairy products. We have tried to avoid the use of any oils or ingredients that are common irritants to children and adults. However, if you have a known allergy to lavender, chamomile, or rosemary essential oils, it is best not to use our products containing those ingredients. While they have been selected due to their healing and calming properties, they may not be appropriate for a small percentage of consumers with specific allergies. The word ‘hypoallergenic’ means ‘least likely to cause a reaction’. It does not mean that it will never cause reactions on anyone ever. In fact, no product can say that. So, please review our labels to make sure you are not allergic to any of our ingredients before trying or buying our products.

Do you use Parabens as preservatives? If not, how do you preserve your products?

No. There are no synthetic ingredients and/or artificial preservatives in our products. We only use 100% natural preservatives in our products such as essential oils, vitamin E, and rosemary.

Why are organic ingredients more expensive?

Organic plants can and usually do cost more to grow because of the cost of the seeds, the care and handling along with the time and effort that the farmer puts into these crops to cultivate and harvest them. Organic farmers cannot use cheap genetically modified seeds or chemical laded pesticides and herbicides to rid predators. They have to do things the old fashioned way by rotating crops and using fertile, nutrient rich soil to grow the superior organic product.

What is the shelf-life of your products?

We recommend using our products within 18 months from the time you open the product. We also recommended you store products in a cool, dry place.

Why does your baby line say for 0-2 years and your kid line for 2+?

The reason that we recommend it for babies ages 0-2 years is that when you step up to our next line for kids 2 years and older, it contains essential oils. Though essential oils have wonderful therapeutic benefits, some younger children and babies may be irritated by them. Doctors generally recommend using unscented products for newborns and babies because there is less of a chance those products will irritate their new and extremely delicate skin.

What makes Active Essentials™ products safer than other baby care products?

We pride ourselves in creating truly natural and organic products that use only the highest quality ingredients possible. All of our products are made from either fruits, vegetables, plants or flowers. It doesn't get safer than that! Active Essentials products are all free of any harsh chemicals and chemical preservatives, synthetic fragrances, GMO's, parabens, sulfates or phthalates and are silicone free, sodium chloride-free, formaldehyde-free, dye-free, cruelty-free, gluten-free, nut-free, color-safe, vegan, biodegradable, hypoallergenic, and are naturally non-toxic! We use only organic and wild harvested essential oils that are sourced from all around the world. Every single ingredient in each of our products serves a specific purpose. We are a small privately owned company whose primary concern is quality over quantity. You won't find one single ingredient in our entire product line that is not natural. Not one. Most "natural" and "organic" skincare products have atleast one or more chemicals, fillers or preservatives in their products, even if the product is mostly natural. That's not good enough for Active Essentials. We believe your baby deserves better. The FDA does not regulate cosmetics (not just makeup, skincare also falls under that category). So, there is no agency making sure that products being offered on the market are safe. The only way you can know for sure that your products are safe is to use natural and organic products. Also, not all companies check their products for safety. At Active Essentials, we go above and beyond to ensure the safety of your little one. We wouldn't have you put anything on your children that we wouldn't put on ours!

Why are your products more expensive than other products I could find in the grocery store?

You generally get what you pay for. Organic plants can and usually do cost more to grow because of the cost of the seeds, the care and handling along with the time and effort that the farmer puts into these crops to cultivate and harvest them. Organic farmers cannot use cheap, genetically modified seeds or chemical laded pesticides and herbicides to rid predators. They have to do things the old fashioned way by rotating crops and using fertile nutrient rich soil to grow the superior organic product.

The fact is, products that are made with high quality natural and organic ingredients cost much more to produce than products filled with chemicals, fillers and synthetic ingredients. Most "natural" and "organic" skincare products have atleast one or more chemicals, fillers or chemical preservatives in their products, even if the product is mostly natural. You won't find one single ingredient in our entire product line that is not natural. Not one. When companies use synthetics or fillers in place of high quality ingredients in their products, it keeps their costs down, which enables them to make more money. At Active Essentials, we will never sacrifice quality for profit, ever.

Do you test on animals?

NEVER! We are just as passionate about animals as we are about babies and children. We will never test our products on animals.

Who can use Active Essentials™ products?

EVERYBODY! All of our products have been through extensive lab testing to make sure that they are hypoallergenic, non-irritating, safe, suitable for sensitive skin and highly effective. We recommend our Egyptian Calendula & Comfrey (Unscented) line for those with extra sensitive skin and eczema.

Are your products safe for pregnant women to use?

Our Lavender & Coconut Soothing Bath Milk would be a great way for Mama-To-Be to relax! As for the rest of our products, some experts believe that essential oils and calendula may be harmful to the fetus during pregnancy, particularly in the first trimester. Therefore, we do not recommend our products to pregnant women.

However, we are excited to say that we will be coming out with a new line specifically for pregnant women soon!

Can people with nut allergies use these products?

Yes. All of our products are safe and have been lab tested to be hypoallergenic. Our products are free from peanuts and tree nuts such as walnuts, cashews, almonds and pecans. We utilize coconut derived ingredients and shea butter in some of our products, which are not typically restricted by those with nut allergies. However, if you develop a reaction to any of our products, please discontinue use and consult your physician.

Are your products suitable for vegans?

Yes.

Why does your shampoo & body wash foam less than conventional shampoos and washes?

Sodium laureth sulfate (SLS) is a harsh chemical that is often used to create the bubbles in bubble bath, shampoos or body washes. SLS is known to be a common irritant for children and adults and is very drying to the skin. We do not use SLS or any other chemicals or synthetic ingredients to create bath suds or bubbles. The saponified organic coconut oil that we use in our body wash and shampoo creates a silky smooth, luxurious lather that is an incredible natural cleanser while gently cleansing and moisturizing at the same time! Coconut oil is deeply hydrating and has antiviral, antibacterial, and antifungal properties allowing coconut oil to be a superior cleanser and skin protectant.

What are the differences between essential oils and fragrances?

This is one of the most common misrepresentations among natural products. Essential oils are pure plant extracts used for scenting or aromatherapy. Fragrance oils are synthetically made substitutes for essential oils. Many products, even those labeled “natural” contain fragrance oils. Often, a natural product label will say “contains essential oils.” This can be deceiving and it is always important to check if it also contains fragrance oils. Fragrance oils are problematic because, as synthetic compounds, they dry out your skin and irritate sensitive skin. If the ingredients includes the word “fragrance,” “perfume,” or “parfum,” then it’s synthetic and not-natural, even though its packaging may say it is.

Are your oils cold pressed?

Absolutely! By using only cold pressed oils, we can be sure that all the natural skin loving nutrients are preserved within the oils since they can be damaged when exposed to very high temperatures.
